Nassau County Board of County Commissioners Adopts Moratorium on Data Centers

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted last night to approve a temporary moratorium on the acceptance, review, and approval of applications for development permits, development orders, rezonings, or site plans related to data center facilities in Nassau County.

The first public hearing on the proposed moratorium was held on April 13, 2026, with the second and final hearing taking place last night. Ordinance No. 2026-044 establishes the moratorium for up to 12 months while the County continues to review, study and hold public workshops and hearings to prepare and adopt amendments to its Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Regulations, and Code of Ordinances as necessary to address the demands of data center facilities.

The Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee will continue gathering information related to environmental impacts, water consumption, electrical demand, infrastructure capacity, land use compatibility, economic impacts, and other issues associated with data center development before providing findings to the BOCC for future policy consideration.

The next Fact-Finding Committee meeting will be held tonight at 5:00 p.m. at the West Nassau High School Cafetorium in Callahan and will consist of citizen comments and committee discussion.

Residents can follow the process, view meeting materials, watch videos, and submit public comments at nassaufl.co/DataCenters-FactFinding.

The BOCC would like to thank all residents, stakeholders, presenters, and community members who have participated in meetings, submitted comments, and remained engaged throughout this ongoing process.
