FPL and Nassau County Council on Aging Distribute Hurricane Preparedness Kits to Nassau County Seniors
As hurricane season gets underway, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) and the Florida Council on Aging have teamed up to help local seniors prepare for potential storms by distributing hurricane preparedness meal kits to older adults on the west side of Nassau County.
Each kit, courtesy of FPL, includes three days of shelf-stable food, water and snacks for seniors who may not be able to leave their homes or receive home-delivered meals immediately after a storm. The kits also include a hurricane preparedness guide with tips and resources. Volunteers from FPL and NCCOA, alongside Nassau County Commissioner Klynt Farmer, distributed the kits to seniors at NCCOA’s Westside Senior Life Center and through home deliveries on June 15.
"Hurricane season can be especially challenging for older adults, and being prepared before an emergency occurs can make all the difference," said Janice Ancrum, President and CEO of Nassau County Council on Aging. “We are grateful to Florida Power & Light for their continued partnership and commitment to Nassau County seniors. Their support helps ensure our older neighbors have the resources they need to face storm season with greater confidence and security."
Since 2016, FPL has partnered with community nonprofits across Florida to distribute thousands of hurricane preparedness kits designed to help seniors safely navigate storm season. Customers can find additional preparedness resources, including storm checklists and safety tips, at FPL.com/storm.
