Youth Leadership Nassau Applications Now Available

What is YLN?
Youth Leadership Nassau (YLN) is a hands-on leadership development program designed for high school students in Nassau County. Through interactive sessions, site visits, and engagement with community partners, public officials, and industry professionals, participants gain real-world insight into local careers and community systems. The program emphasizes experiential learning, helping youth build confidence, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.

Throughout the program, participants explore career pathways, strengthen their leadership abilities, and develop a deeper understanding of their role within the community. By the end of the program, youth are better prepared to take on leadership roles, make informed decisions, and pursue future opportunities within Nassau County and beyond. Each month youth will travel together to new host locations to learn more about the community. 

Program Statement:
Youth Leadership Nassau connects youth leaders with community partners to develop career readiness, leadership capacity, and essential life skills.

Objectives

• Identify high school students who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to serving their communities.
• Provide immersive learning experiences that connect students with local issues, resources, and leaders.
• Enhance leadership, communication, and teamwork skills through hands-on activities.
• Foster connections among youth from diverse backgrounds to promote collaboration and mutual respect.
• Expose participants to career opportunities in Nassau County while building workforce readiness and professional networks.

Program days are structured around themed sessions, which may include:
Team building, animal welfare, government, economic development, entrepreneurship, justice and law enforcement, environment, agriculture, tourism, hospitality, arts, and health.
