CLAM Workshop Regarding Piney Island Viewshed Management Plan

The Nassau County Conservation Lands Acquisition and Management (CLAM) Committee will host a workshop on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. to discuss the Piney Island Viewshed and its future management.

The 42.12-acre Piney Island property, located along State Road 200 near the gateway to Amelia Island, was identified as the #1 priority project through the County’s CLAM Program. In November 2025, Nassau County completed the acquisition of the property, making Piney Island the first property acquired through the CLAM Program.

The acquisition permanently protects an important piece of land that had been entitled for 26 single-family homes. Instead of being developed for residential use, the property will remain protected as conservation land, conserving natural habitat, open space and the scenic character of the Amelia Island gateway.

The property includes approximately 27.5 acres of mesic flatwoods, an underrepresented natural community, as well as areas that provide important environmental and water-quality benefits. Protecting the property also helps conserve a natural buffer in an area vulnerable to flooding and storm surge.

The August 20 workshop will provide an opportunity for the CLAM Committee to discuss the property and its draft management plan. The County is developing the management plan to guide the long-term stewardship of the property while balancing conservation with appropriate opportunities for passive public use.
