Nassau County Capital Improvement Projects Update

At Monday's Budget Workshop, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners received an update on the County’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the many projects helping shape Nassau County’s future! 

A Capital Improvement Plan serves as a roadmap for major, non-recurring investments in public assets such as roads, parks, buildings, public infrastructure, and other facilities with a useful life of five years or more. The CIP helps plan for projects in the current fiscal year, the next five years, and beyond based on projected resources and funding.

The update included projects at various stage, from recently completed projects and those currently under construction to projects in design and planning for the years ahead.

Projects Highlighted

Recently completed or advancing:

  • Henry Smith Road
  • New Fire Rescue Stations 70 and 90
  • William Burgess Boulevard Extension
  • William Burgess Boulevard & Harts Road Roundabout
  • Pages Dairy Road & Chester Road Intersection
  • Westside Regional Park
  • Amelia Island Parkway Trail.

Currently in progress:

  • Amelia Island Parkway/Buccaneer Trail Roundabout
  • John Claxton Boat Ramp Improvements
  • County Road 121 Reconstruction
  • Fire Station 30 Replacement
  • New Living Quarters at Fire Station 20.

And that's just a snapshot! Dozens of additional projects are currently in the design and planning phases as Nassau County continues preparing for future infrastructure, public safety, transportation, recreation, and community needs. 

While the CIP focuses on major capital investments, the County also continues to invest in ongoing roadway maintenance and preservation through the Road Department, including resurfacing, overlays, chip seal, and other improvements designed to maintain and extend the life of existing roadways.
