UF/IFAS Nassau County Extension 2026 Peanut Butter Challenge

The Peanut Butter Challenge is an annual statewide food collection competition (between counties) in Florida designed to combat hunger by collecting unopened, unexpired jars of peanut butter for local pantries (stays in Nassau County).

Why Peanut Butter?
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items at food banks because it is exceptionally nutrient-dense, high in protein, shelf-stable, and loved by adults and children alike. Additionally, the challenge highlights Florida's agricultural industry; peanuts are a major crop in the state, making the drive locally beneficial on multiple levels. The event originally launched in the Florida Panhandle in 2012 before expanding statewide in 2020. It has grown tremendously, reaching a record-breaking 44,564 pounds of peanut butter collected during last year's drive.

How the Challenge Works

• What to Donate: Residents are encouraged to donate unopened, unexpired jars of peanut butter of any size or flavor (creamy and crunchy are both welcomed!). Some local offices also accept alternative nut butters (like almond butter) to accommodate those with peanut allergies.
• Where to Donate: Drop-off points are available in all 67 Florida counties. You can bring jars to your local UF/IFAS Extension County Office, and many areas also set up collection bins at local libraries, parks, and public buildings.
