Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport to Host Airport Master Plan Update and Open House October

Family-friendly event will feature aircraft, public-safety vehicles, aviation organizations, charity airplane rides and solicit public feedback on the Airport Master Plan

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The City of Fernandina Beach and the local aviation community invite residents and visitors to provide feedback on the long-term initiatives of the ongoing Airport Master Plan Update, and to explore the people, aircraft and services of Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport during the KFHB Airport Open House on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Designed for the general public, families, aviation enthusiasts and anyone interested in learning more about the airport, the open house will provide an up-close look at aircraft, aviation businesses, community organizations and public-safety equipment. Attendees will also have an opportunity to review and provide feedback at the first of two public events showcasing the planning efforts for the Airport Master Plan Update.

“This open house is an opportunity for the community to see firsthand how much takes place at Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport,” said Nathan Coyle, Airport Manager for the City of Fernandina Beach. “Beyond aviation, the airport supports public safety, local businesses, education and the region’s economy. We look forward to welcoming our neighbors to provide feedback on planning efforts and to enjoy a fun and informative day.”

Aircraft scheduled for display include a classic yellow Piper Cub, a twin-engine AirCam, an ultralight trike, a training aircraft and aircraft represented by the Civil Air Patrol and a Barefoot Flyers Powered Paraglider. An aeromedical helicopter is also expected to participate, subject to emergency service availability. Additional aircraft, including a Cirrus Vision Jet and other locally based airplanes, are expected to participate.

A special opening ceremony is also being planned, including remarks from City and airport representatives and an opening parachute jump by World Skydiving Center, weather and operational conditions permitting.

Additional attractions and activities are expected to include:

  • Public-safety and City vehicle displays
  • Charity airplane rides offering aerial views of Amelia Island in exchange for donations benefiting the local EAA Chapter 943 flight scholarship program
  • Exhibits from airport tenants and aviation organizations
  • An Airport Master Plan Update open house with displays, opportunities to ask questions and a way for community members to provide feedback
  • Food trucks and refreshments available for purchase
  • Opportunities to meet pilots, aviation professionals, first responders and airport representatives

Participating airport organizations and businesses include A-Cent Aviation, Advanced AeroTechnologies, Barefoot Flyers, Bent Wing Flight Services, Civil Air Patrol, Fernandina Aircraft Maintenance, Friends of Fernandina Aviation, EAA Chapter 943 and LifeFlight, with additional participants expected.
